Here Are The Complete Guide To A Perfect Thailand Holiday

There’s a reason why Thailand is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. What’s not to like about the amazing hospitality, the wildlife, the scenery and the yummy Thai food?

From the thick, green jungles, lovely golden beaches with sand so fine you can clean your jewelry to the shopping, and the welcoming Thai customs and its delectable food, Thailand offers you just about anything you ever wished for and dreamed about. It is a country with an irresistible exotic lure; kind of like a magnet that once it’s gotten a hold of you never lets you go.

  • Enjoy Safe Travels and Mod Cons

When you travel in Thailand you can do so safely while enjoying all the mod cons you’re probably used to from home.

You can find a reasonable number of ATMs to keep you stocked with cash when needed. Credit cards are readily accepted in most places.

Thai people have a different quality of life than you may be used to in the Western world… in our culture family and friends mean a lot, so we do have tight communities that are open and welcoming.

  • A Shoppers Paradise Disguised

If you like shopping you can go crazy in Thailand and spend the last baht before you step back on the plane home. You can find many bargains when buying clothing, electronics, furniture, etc.

Thailand also features transportation systems, movie theaters, a great many number of shops, street stalls, and of course hotels.

Hotels are diverse and Thailand is home to some of the best hotels and hotel chains in the world.

  • It’s All About the Thai Culture

Let’s face it, when tourists come to Thailand they usually do so because of its rich culture.

Despite the number of tourists that travel to Thailand each year it has retained its traditional character and culture. You will definitely feel it.

You can expand your cultural knowledge and experience the beliefs of another culture while immersing yourself in the thicket of this amazing country.

But be warned… it is addictive!

  • Get More by Expecting Less

To make the most of your Thai trip we suggest you arrive with an open heart and a relaxed attitude.

Being a tolerant and understanding place, Thai people place a lot of weight on good behavior, manners and grace.

The worst thing you can do is to behave like an ignorant fool.

Thais frown upon bad behavior such as using bad language, yelling and demonstrating anger. If you have an honest complaint to make do so with grace and respect and don’t dwell on it – as we’ve already discussed in last week’s issue, save face and let the other person do the same. Practice cool reassurance and confidence instead. You will enjoy your visit to Thailand so much more.

  • What to Pack/Wear

Thailand is best described as being tropical and humid for most of the year. However, the northern and southern regions of Thailand offer a slight difference in weather, with the north offering three seasons and the south two. Packing for a Thai vacation is actually quite straightforward. Since clothing is so cheap to buy you really only need enough stuff to last you a few days.

You can then either wash your gear on the move or buy more while traveling. It’s cheaper that way too and you never have to worry about excess weight charges from your airline – until when you come home anyway (if you got a credit card trigger finger).

Generally you are best served with comfortable lose clothing; pack jeans, underwear, a few t-shirts, shorts, swimwear, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, a poncho (if you travel in the rainy season), comfortable walking shoes, flip flops and make sure your clothes are of breathable material such as cotton, linen or hemp.

  • General Weather Patterns in the North and South

If you look at a map of Thailand you can roughly divide it between north and south of the city of Bangkok – Thailand’s capital.
Northern Thailand. The seasons in northern Thailand are clearly defined. The dry season takes place between November and May each year; however, the dry period from March to May is generally hotter than the previous months – due to the cooling monsoon that affects the months from November to February. The third northern season takes place from May to November each year. Also called the wet season, it’s when the southwest monsoon drops large amounts of rainfalls into the region.
Southern Thailand

The southern region of Thailand has two seasons, dry and wet. Seasons here are split between east and west. You can find monsoonal storms and rain on the west coast between April and October, whereas you find the east coast wetter during September all the way to December.

As a rule of thumb, southern Thailand gets more rain than the north. So pack an umbrella or poncho when you travel during the wet season to stay dry.

  • When’s the Best Time to Travel?

The best time to visit Thailand is from November to February. During that time Bangkok experiences temperature that range from 18ºC to 32ºC.

Expect below freezing temperatures in the north at night and chilly evenings, so bring a jumper or jacket.

  • What to Do?

If you get bored while traveling in Thailand then chances are you may not have a pulse. Just kidding here…

So lets not pull any punches here, shall we?

But it’s worth repeating: You should never feel reasons to get bored in Thailand. There is too much to do and see.

You can visit one of the many Buddhist temples in Bangkok or in the countryside, join an elephant trek in Chang Mai, cuddle a baby tiger in Koh Samui, or stand in awe before the Emerald Buddha in the Golden City (Bangkok).

At night you can dine on the delectable Thai cuisine – either at one of the street food stalls or in a restaurant. The choices are endless. If you wish you can also sample Western food at one of the many well-known franchises or expat-owned diners.

Thailand’s rich culture will entice you to want to know more, it will tickle you to let go and relax, it will seduce you to smile often (for no apparent reason), and it will grab you in the deepest recesses of your heart, and never let go.
