Second, it’s not uncommon for Thai men to drink to excess – squandering the family’s money on liquor not only for themselves, but often hosting their friends in bars, clubs, or discos.

Third, domestic violence is more than common in Thailand. It’s considered “normal,” and often goes unreported. Women are taught that it’s just a part of married life, and are powerless to hold their husband accountable by expecting any support from the police, the courts, or society in general.
