Here’s How You Should Follow When Applying A Spouse Visa

There are a number of reasons why ladies from Thailand make great wives. Not only are they attractive, but have a tender nature as well. They are warm, accommodating, and would do anything to keep their husbands happy. They readily acknowledge that their spouse is the head of the house and exhibit a healthy respect for them. Unlike a lot of American women, most Thai girls prefer a quiet life at home after marriage so they can care for their families themselves. They personally see to it that meals are served well and the home is kept tidy. If you have already found a lovely Thai wife and are already planning on taking her back to the United States, your new bride would need the right travel documents. This article provides steps to follow when the spouse of a U.S. citizen applies for an immigrant visa.

1. File a Petition for Alien Relative (Form I-130). This is done by the Department  of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Specific instructions for this can be found on the agency’s official website (http://www.uscis.gov/)

2. Once the USCIS has given the approval for your petition, it will then be forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) who assigns a case number to it. If the applicant will be using an attorney, the Choice of Address and Agent form will be used. NVC will then provide the applicant with instructions on how to pay the necessary fees. When these have been paid, the center will request submission of immigrant visa documents. This includes the Affidavit of Support, documentation providing proof of current civil status as well as application forms. Refer to the U.S. Embassy’s official website for the complete list. Additionally, you may learn more about NVC processing

3. After NVC determines that you already have all the necessary paperwork, it will then  schedule the applicant’s  interview appointment. The visa processing center will then send your file to the U.S. embassy or the consulate office will the interview will take place. An email or letter (if the former is not available) will be sent indicating the date and time of the applicant’s visa interview. Instructions on where to go for a medical examination will also be included.

4. As mentioned in the previous step, the applicant will need to complete a medical  examination and required vaccinations prior to the interview date. Note that this should only be done by an authorized panel physician.

5. Go over the Rights and Protection pamphlet with your Thai wife before the interview  so that she will be informed about her rights in the U.S. in relation to domestic violence and sexual assault. It is important for both of you to understand this so that she would be aware and you would know how to protect her better.

6. On the day of the interview, the applicant must bring her valid passport along with  documentation that was not provided to NVC earlier. Expect ink-free, digital fingerprint scans to be taken during the course of this process. Since all original civil documents and translations will be returned, make sure to have clear photocopies of them in case they are needed.

7. Once the visa has been issued, the consular officer will give your spouse two items – her passport containing the immigrant visa and a sealed packet that contains all the documents that have been provided. Do not open the latter as only a U.S.immigration official should do this when you enter the United States.

8. On a final note, immigrant visa applicants should anticipate that their application may require further administrative processing. Hence, final travel arrangements, property disposal, or giving up jobs should only be done after the visa has already been issued.
